1978 F250 Camper Special Ranger with the Explorer package RWD, 400 V8, automatic transmission, power steering **mileage is estimated (see below)* This truck starts easily every time, runs like a champ, and needs absolutely nothing to get you happily on the road. head gasket failed recently and was since fully repaired including inspection of heads by a machinist and a fresh coat of Ford-blue paint. Recent work includes: -replaced head gasket -radiator has been replaced and recently serviced -new starter (flywheel was inspected and did not require repair) -new thermostat regulator -fully serviced carburetor -drained and inspected main fuel tank This is an all-original beast of a truck that was a daily driver by one owner and then purchased by the next owner through his estate; and I took possession of it two years ago. A considerable amount of mechanical work has been completed on this rig. The interior is all original, the seat is not broken down or torn. This truck really runs and drives very well and loves to have a load in the back. It turns a lot of heads with its original paint and pinstriping--it still looks really great and it's likely that it was stored under cover for most of it's life. The not so great: The odometer is broken and reads 25k—the same as when I bought it although the PO said he thought the odometer quit just prior to sale so who know. Judging by the body and interior wear he might be correct and it hasn't been driven more that 1k miles in the last two years. A couple of dents on the driver's side of the bed and what appears to be an old cosmetic repair. See pics for close-ups of some rust spots. The right turn signal doesn't self cancel and the left has to be held on, left dash indicator is out. General wear from being a 40+ year old truck, including detached headliner on the driver's side Loose arm rest has on driver side door, cracked interior panel on the passenger side (see pics), original carpet is worn; there are some replacement mats in the truck plus I'll add in some nice heavy-duty all weather mats. There are two gas tanks but have never used the auxiliary one and cannot speak to its condition. It currently has the 17" brown Dodge truck wheels with nearly new tires on it, they are slightly oversized but fit well, and do not rub. When the head gasket was repaired (5/2022) the cruise control was removed since it never worked anyway and was not replaced when the engine was reassembled after the head gasket repair. The radio works only when it feels like it and one of my favorite cassettes is stuck in it so I hope you like Bob Dylan and Bonnie Raitt bootlegs. In the previous couple of years the following work has been done by my mechanic or the former owner: -new water pump, 2 freeze plugs, a heater hose fitting, upper and lower radiator hoses, spark plugs, radius arm bushings, headlight switch, fuel lines. Has had compression testing (all good), new EGR valve, new timing chain. The price reflects the excellent mechanics of the truck and great condition overall. If someone is looking to have a fully restored Camper Special, they'd be well on their way by acquiring this truck. Look at classics.autotrader.com for comparable vehicles.
